Arriving from the Airport

Taxis

A taxi from the airport to the city centre should cost about 140 to 180 yuan. The drivers rarely try to scam tourists as in many other countries. The metre will start at 10 RMB (11RMB late at night) and will tick upwards from there. If they don't turn the metre on, don't get in the taxi. The main problem will be communicating to them where you want to go. Print out directions to your accommodation in Chinese characters before you arrive and you should have no problems.

Dodgy Taxis

I arrived with pretty much zero preparation, late at night and without much of a clue where my hotel was. I headed to an information desk where I was going to ask if there was a train into the city. I was intercepted by a guy saying he was a taxi driver. I asked the girl at the info desk if this is where I got taxis from and she sort of shrugged so I just followed the guy. He spoke English pretty well so I just went along with him. But he led me to a crappy car that was parked in front of the airport and charged 400 yuan so I was completely ripped off. Don't go with these guys.
